Shut the Front Door!

Let’s talk about that front door, y’all!

Some time ago, I had the pleasure of visiting Steve’s home. The first thing I noticed, driving up was his beautiful front door. Then, I went inside and got distracted by the rest of his house and didn’t say anything about the door.

Fast forward to my renovation and I tell him “I want a front door like yours.” Imagine my surprise when he replied “I made that door.” Thus began weeks of me hounding him to build a front door for my house. He skipped around the subject, tried to ignore me & wouldn’t commit. I finally threatened to go take the front door off of his house, while he was out of town. (I wouldn’t have really done it, or would I have?)

One day, I was at work and got a text, from him.

Yes!!! He was making my front door. Sometimes, happiness is a front door.

I even let Steve pick the stain because I knew he wouldn’t let me down.

See those 3 slots, for glass? Steve took the glass panes from the original front door of the house and placed them within this door. So, people can want it. They can talk about it. They can even beg him to make another, but there will never be another door like mine.

You can’t replicate the sentimentality that went into placing those glass panes into my new door. My great grandparents, my grand parents and my dad all touched or looked out of those panes, in the past. Now, I have the honor to peer out of those same glass panes.

“Remember and honor family who have come and gone before you, because they had a hand in shaping who you are.”
